US Congress

H.R.517 Filing Relief for Natural Disasters Act
Introduced by Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN), this bill allows the IRS to extend federal tax filing and payment deadlines for individuals and businesses in federally declared disaster areas. The law codifies the Treasury Secretary’s authority to provide temporary tax relief during natural disasters and ensures uniformity in disaster-related tax extensions. It aims to reduce confusion and provide certainty for taxpayers affected by floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and other major events.

H.R.4 Rescissions Act of 2025
Introduced by Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), this law authorizes the cancellation of certain unspent federal funds previously appropriated by Congress. Targeting unobligated balances across multiple agencies, the act is designed to reduce the federal deficit and redirect resources toward current fiscal priorities. It reflects the House Republican majority’s push to reclaim unused COVID-era and other discretionary spending in an effort to rein in government expenditures.

S.1596 Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge Act
Introduced by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), this legislation establishes the Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge in Texas. The refuge will protect critical habitats for migratory birds, native wildlife, and at-risk ecosystems. It honors the memory of Jocelyn Nungaray and expands public access to conservation lands. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is tasked with managing the refuge under existing environmental stewardship guidelines.

S.1582 GENIUS Act
Introduced by Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN), the “Generating Enhanced National Investments in U.S. Science” (GENIUS) Act seeks to boost American innovation by enhancing public-private partnerships in research and development. It incentivizes corporate investment in domestic R&D through targeted tax credits and streamlines federal grant processes for high-tech startups and research institutions. The law also encourages collaboration between U.S. universities and industry to accelerate breakthroughs in emerging technologies.
