On August 27, 2025, a horrific shooting unfolded at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis during the first all-school Mass of the academic year, where a gunman fired through stained-glass windows into the church, targeting children and parishioners seated in the pews. The attacker, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman—born Robert Westman and legally changed his name at age 17 to reflect a female identity—killed two young boys, aged 8 and 10, and injured 17 others, including 14 children between 6 and 15 years old and three elderly parishioners in their 80s. Armed with a legally purchased unleashing dozens of rounds and ultimately dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. The FBI is investigating the incident as domestic terrorism and a hate crime aimed at Catholics, highlighting the deliberate cruelty of the assault on innocent worshippers.

Shooter Background
Westman, a former student at the targeted school, lived in suburban Richfield and briefly worked at a local cannabis dispensary earlier in 2025. His mother, Mary Grace Westman, had been employed in the church’s business office until retiring in 2021, giving the family insider knowledge of the location. Court records from 2019 show Westman’s mother petitioned for the name change, noting his identification as female, while social media videos revealed an obsession with mass shooters, guns, bullets, and explosive devices marked with antisemitic slurs, Holocaust references, and threats like “Kill Donald Trump.” The videos, posted in a mix of English and Russian using Cyrillic letters, also displayed a hand-drawn map of the church interior and diary entries expressing self-hatred, suicidal ideation, and fantasies of violence against children for the “betterment of society,” including rants against God, Israel, and the Jewish faith.
Manifesto Revelations
In a pre-recorded manifesto uploaded to YouTube shortly before the attack, Westman confessed to severe depression, anger, and a “twisted mind” driving him to commit the “final act” he had contemplated for years, admitting he felt “sick” and controlled by inner demons but unable to stop himself. The document, translated from parts written in Russian script, mocked divine intervention for failing to prevent school shootings and listed names of infamous shooters, while a sticker on his journal featured a gun overlaid on LGBTQ and trans flags with the slogan “Defend Equality,” blending radical ideology with personal turmoil. Westman claimed self-inflicted health issues like cancer from vaping contributed to his fatalistic mindset, and authorities recovered a possible smoke bomb at the scene, underscoring the premeditated nature of the assault. The content, now removed by the FBI, exposes a deranged fixation on inflicting maximum harm on the Catholic community he once knew intimately.
