Hillsborough County BOCC, Florida

During the March 5, 2025, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the following decisions and votes were made:

  • Tri-Party Agreement for Road Resurfacing: Approved a $17.1 million agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation, Plant City, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and ZooTampa for road resurfacing projects. Funding originates from previously collected Transportation Surtax funds, with each recipient receiving their share directly from FDOT.
  • Funding Allocation to A Kid’s Place of Tampa Bay, Inc.: Allocated $150,510 to support the construction of two restrooms for the organization’s upcoming activity center in Brandon. A Kid’s Place offers residential foster care to children in crisis due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
  • Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds: Approved the administrative action plan for these funds and a 90-day extension to submit the full Action Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The County anticipates receiving a $709 million grant for disaster relief and related efforts, with an initial 5% ($35.4 million) available over six years upon plan approval.
  • Emergency Purchases Related to Hurricane Milton: Approved $7.4 million for the Water Resources department to continue wastewater and compost hauling services, aiming to prevent backups and spills into residential areas.
  • Post-Hurricane Regional Stormwater Assessment Update: Received a monthly update on the assessment, with staff analyzing flooding from Hurricane Milton, engaging with community stakeholders, and planning public events to discuss potential improvements for future storm seasons. Proposed options include increased funding, new and upgraded pump stations, and capacity and flood storage enhancements.

The next BOCC regular meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025
